Blackburn College

Blackburn College

A four year PR campaign helped Blackburn College achieve world-class status as one of the pioneering colleges in the UK.

Freedman Brown working with the in house marketing team played a pivotal role in the rebranding of the College, driving up enrolment numbers and supporting the government agenda for education provision of skills and training. The work carried out also developed meaningful relationships with the business and commercial community in East Lancashire.

Now the College is recognised as a Centre of Educational Excellence. The agency devised a strategic campaign to help publicise a 38 million master plan to transform the campus including the development of a new Sixth Form College, HE block and promoting links with Lancaster University. The agency also assisted in the development of the college's website, the launch of a new 120 seater Scholars restaurant, new IT and hospitality block and a new media unit.

The campaign led by Principal Ian Clinton and his team, helped the College into the top 5 per cent of colleges in the whole of the UK and won it an Outstanding Award from Ofsted.

Media highlights included the launch of the College's own record label, an official opening by HRH the Duke of Gloucester and a blessing by the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu. The college also built a partnership with top Blackburn born designer Wayne Hemingway, who continues to champion the North West and the next generation of young entrepreneurs and designers.
